Steel Bath Tubs

Perhaps the cheapest bathtubs are produced from steel that is stamped into the desired shape and coated with a thin layer of heat-fused porcelain enamel.   Porcelain enamel is a substantially vitreous or glassy inorganic coating bonded to metal by fusion at a very high temperature. This process forms a smooth attractive finish that is resistant to acid, corrosion, or abrasion.  It is flameproof, colorfast, and sanitary.  They are lightweight in comparison to cast iron and inexpensive.

It is very easy to damage this porcelain layer.  Repair of these tubs consist of repairing chips and rust from the surface. Since they are sold in standard bath colors, it is generally possible to find the correct color repair coating. Check our Color section to select the correct color. The surface should be etched prior to applying the Quick Glaze system.  Use Etching Cream in combination with Quickprep Primerto achieve maximum adhesion.
